Twitter Marketing -@BlatzLiquor Style
Yesterday, my Marquette social media class was fortunate enough to have Joe Woelfle of Blatz Liquor speak on twitter marketing. Joe (@BlatzLiquor) is a big name on twitter in Milwaukee. Although he’s only been tweeting for a year, he’s gotten a lot of recognition for his use of the tool. Here are a few of the “juicy tidbits” I gleaned from his talk:
- Follow your market. If you, like Blatz Liquor, are a regional company, it only makes sense…these are potential customers. Where do you find these people? Wefollow.com is a good start.
- With that said, you don’t have to follow everyone. If something is important enough, it will get re-tweeted and you will see it.
- The great thing about Twitter is that it builds rapport. You can’t get that with a print ad. Being in the alcohol industry, Blatz has a lot more freedom in building this rapport.
- For @BlatzLiquor, about 60% of the conversation is social and 40% is business. This is NOT a universal standard, just what works for Blatz.
- Don’t forget to complement twitter with other social media outlets. Blatz liquor did this with their Facebook group and UStream.
- Lastly, if you’re looking for a good laugh, follow @BlatzLiquor’s hashtag #firstsale, cataloging the first beer sale of the day…that’s at roughly 9am, folks. Funny? Yes. But also a great, strategic niche that attracts people.
As with all social media, this is just a snapshot. There is no cookie cutter answer, but examples always help.
Enjoy!
Being that I too enjoyed his talk, I thought i would comment. I truely belive that his business does as well as it does because of his social media use. If he were to use normal means of advertising, his name probably would not be known to college kids like they are.
